After very busy weeks with moving to another city, projects to finish in the office and the pandemic situation an easy hike was what I needed.
At the end of March everyone would already think of going for a hike and see some spring flowers like crocus or snowdrops. And this is what I was hoping for.. But no, in The Black Forest is still a long way until spring time.
Because I had quite a long break from hiking I felt that I need to start again with something easy. This trail was perfect – beautiful scenery, easy to walk and accessible.
The trail has more segments. The first segment is going throughout the forest and you can see a small ski run (which still had snow), a deer stable but also some info panels. This segment is actually on a forest road.
Then comes the second segment and the most alluring one. At one point, an open area with a small cottage for a break and an intersection will appear. The second part starts from that intersection. In this part you will walk on a raised wooden path which leads you though a fascinating bog. At one point the view is opening to the Wildsee Lake which is also very beautiful. The wooden path continues through the pines, birches and spruces for a few kilometers.
The third segment will be throughout the forest again on a forest road. This part of the trail is leading to the end point of the trail which is a cottage with a restaurant, surrounded by numerous picnic tables and benches. This meadow was perfect for a lunch break we could find a sunny spot for eating and relaxing a little bit. In this place spring came already, there was no snow and it was really warm and pleasant.
Walking back was again very easy and charming. On the first three segments we meet more people but the last part was more quite and we met just a few small groups of people. The trail has 12 km and we took 4 hours to walk the entire way. The difficulty doesn’t need to scare anyone the trail is very easy, just that during winter you will need good hiking boots because of the high snow in some areas. We parked the car in parking area F which had enough parking spots for everyone. You can arrive by train (S-Bahn) and bus as well and just walk into the forest. You can download the map on your mobile phone from here.
In case you don’t want to take care of your phone all the time, the trail is very good marked and you need to follow those marks: Parkplatz F – Schlittenhang – Wildgehege – Leonhardhütte – Wildsee – Weißensteinhütte – Blockhauswald – Grünhütte – Blockhauswald – Weißensteinhütte – Horn – Saatschulhütte – Wildgehege – Schlittenhang – Parkplatz F.
I created a palette with the representative colors of this hike. I always do this when I start working for a new project and it is something that I really enjoy (and it is very helpful at the same time). Please download it and use it for your work if you need some “foresty” colors.
That was it for today.
See you next time!
Lovingly,
Loredana
