HIKING

Hiking trail in Swabian Alps

Hello!

Winter wonderland, those are the main words for this hiking trail.

We decided to continue hiking during the winter as well. Maybe it sounds funny but before, in my head hiking was for the warm season. Well, no!

I discovered how amazing can winter hiking be. With the appropriate clothes hiking in winter is even better than during summer. I am saying this because there is no sun burn on my skin, there is not so crowded and the forest in winter is mesmerizing. I cannot say that you will be alone on the hiking trail, of course there are other people enjoying like you the nature but the peace and joy you feel is just perfect.

During the weekend we do not have too much time for driving far away like in the Alps so we choose the Swabian Alps which are closer to Stuttgart. Swabian Alps or Swabian Jura are a mountain range from Baden-Württemberg (land found in South Germany), they are not so high but beautiful and great for short hikes.

Beginning of the trail.

To arrive in the area we wanted to hike we needed to drive one hour. We had all the information from www.outdooractive.com and the map could be downloaded on the phone.

I observed that sometimes on the German websites with information about the mountains or nature you can find hiking trails made especially for winter which usually are a little bit easier than for warm seasons. Or they prepare new marks for the trails only for winter so people do not get in trouble.

The car can be parked in a parking area called Kornbergsattel situated near a big sliding slope. At that time the sliding slope was full of laugh, happy screaming and sometimes crying because of small accidents occurring from too enthusiastic sliding. I cannot express in words how happy the children were (but the parents too actually).

People hiking.
Peaceful nature.
Foggy forest.
Marks along the trail.
Foggy forest.
Windy snow.

So, the trail is easy to medium difficulty and again with the right hiking boots it shouldn’t appear any problem. During the day, we met people with snow shoes, other hikers, families with children so it is accessible for everybody. Sometimes we were alone just with the peaceful nature. The entire day was snowing so at one point we were like a pair of snowmen (this just reminds me of my childhood in Bucovina).

Heavy coniferous.
Between the orchards.
Fog and peace.

The walk is effortless, the trail is very well marked and the path itself is in a good condition.

To complete this tour of 9 km we needed 4 hours at a normal pace with many breaks to enjoy the view. At one point we even saw a deer in the forest.

That was it from this hike. So get prepared and go outside! Nature is amazing and it has so many benefits on us. And don’t forget to take hot tea and food easy to eat on the way or just to make a short stop because if you stay for too long, you start feeling the cold.

Enjoy your hike and see you next time!

Lovingly,

Loredana
